This fully digital presentation deals with the scientific and astrological phenomena behind the Star of Bethlehem.
"This is a brand-new show for us," said BYU-Idaho Planetarium Director Stephen McNeil. "This show is not produced by the LDS Church or by BYU-Idaho and is not meant to be religious presentation. It is based primarily in scientific facts, blending current scientific viewpoints with the Christmas story and the appearance of the star."
According to production details, "Mystery of the Christmas Star" will also "investigate possible dates for the birth of Jesus Christ and look at recorded sightings of significant astrological events during this timeframe."
"Mystery of the Christmas Star" is produced by digital production company Evans & Sutherland, and has a runtime of 31 minutes. Public showtimes at the BYU-I Planetarium take place every Thursday at 7 p.m. and cost $2 per person. Generally, the planetarium presents a specific show four times a month; however, because of the end of the BYU-I academic semester, "Mystery of the Christmas Star" will only be shown on Thursday and Dec. 11.
"Individuals should arrive at least 20 minutes early to be assured a seat at the show," said McNeil.
